The president of Umuakwu Izombe Development Association ,UIDA , Mr Lucky Dibiagwu, of the diaspora community has called on the executive Governor of Imo state, governor Hope Uzodinma to kindly compensate the victims of 2021/2023 carnage in Izombe. He made this appeal at the maiden Umuakwu day celebration. According to him, many people in the community lost their houses, lives, means of livelihood and properties worth millions to that unfortunate violent incident.
He said that the victims’ hope was restored when the government promised to rehabilitate and rebuild their destroyed houses .
He however regretted that the promise was not fulfilled while calling on governor Uzodinma to look into the plight of these victims.
However, the community honoured and recognized the effort and contributions of one of their illustrious son Inspector Vincent Chika Okebata for his galant effort in fighting insecurity in the community during that period.
Okebata was honoured as the “Dike Udo” of his community.
Okebata’s address read in part : “I wish to humbly thank Umuokwu people here gathered today. In a most special way, I wish to thank the members of Umuokwu Izombe Development Association (UIDA)-The Diaspora Community for considering me worthy of this very important award of honour in the area of security services.
I most profoundly, thank the President of UIDA, Mr Lucky Dibiagwu (Nnaa Lucky) for leading the activities of the Diaspora Community which in the recent years is trying to reshape Umuokwu community.
Under your leadership, our village is gradually taking shape and people are beginning to live with the consciousness of asking questions on issues to promote peace, security and development.
When I was informed that I shall be conferred with an award of Dike Udo at today’s event for my contributions toward the return of peace and security in Izombe, I was humbled, not because I was involved in crime fighting during the dark days in our community, but that such recognition is coming from our brothers living in faraway countries.
I cannot also say that those at home have not appreciated the roles I played, but UIDA has booked a space in my mind by this particular gesture as they are the first to bestow such honour on me in Izombe clan.
I must thank the President and all the members of the association and will add that this award shall motivate me to render more services to Umuokwu people especially in the area of security.
As an indigene and a titled Chief (Omeudo) in this community, this feather added to my cap today shall make me devout more time to collaborate with the leadership of Umuokwu to flush out bad eggs here so as to transform our country home to a reference point as one of the most secured communities in Imo State.
If we achieved this, I am optimistic that Umuokwu shall be a destination for investors not only in Imo State, but beyond. I, therefore say that this aspiration is achievable only if our people will share the vision to flush out bad eggs in our community” .
