2027: Imo Former Gov, Udenwa Revives Redemption Group 

Ahead of 2027 polls, the former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, has revived his  Redemption group, as well as reunited its members.

Redemption, originally birthed in 1997 by Chief Achike Udenwa, who climbed on the laddder of the platform to emerge as Governor of Imo State in 1999, is purely a political platform that parades multiple prominent and responsible members, who belong to different political parties.

The reunion of the Redemption group took effect on 2nd day of January, 2026, at the Civic Centre Owerri residence of Chief Achike Udenwa – with many members of the group: Chief Achike Udenwa, Prof. Agboma Udenwa, Val Mbamara, Dr. Esom Goddy Obodo, Ngozi Ogbu, Dr. Vin Udokwu, Hon. Henry Igbomezie, Dr. Best Njoku, Barr. Charles Onyeagbako, Analyn Nwaneri, in attendance.

Speaking, the Convener of the Get-together, Chief Achike Udenwa, said he was very excited to see men and women of Redemption who worked for the victory of the election that brought them into government in 1999, advising members to be purposeful, work hard and stop cutting corners.

“We thank God for the huge gathering. It is very impressive that a cross session of members are gathered here today to brainstorm on how to move forward politically.

“Members have to be faithful, believe in yourselves so that we will still go far in politics and governance. Believe in yourselve and work hard. Redemption is not about me, but about us. We are not a political party as a lot of Redemption members belong to different political parties.

“A lot of members who shy away may not be successful in politics and governance. Enough positive principles kept us together. All of our debates in the Executive Council were effectively carried out as every body participated hence we practiced participatory democracy”, Udenwa said.

Urging members to stay strong to enable them cause the redemption of Imo State through politics and governance, Udenwa encouraged younger members to work hard to be able to soar high in politics and governance. “We must work very hard and be purposeful with a view to serving Imo State faithfully, accountably and passionately”.

“Redemption was founded by 5 people, 3  alive and 2 dead. Analyn Nwaneri and Val Mbamara are still alive. They played a major role to the success of Redemption. We are pushing forward especially when we keep unity and selflessness alive”, the former Governor said.

In his opening remarks earlier, Dr. Vin Udokwu, stated that there was need for members of Redemption to come together to finetune politics, thanking Chief Achike Udenwa for bringing them together.

“Redemption family is a political family to reckon with in Imo State. There is need for proper coordination of ourselves. We are a political family who believe in victory and success of the people of Imo State which we previously demonstrated during the 8 years we were in government”, Udokwu affirmed.

However, members of the group agreed that Redemption would continually making huge success and progress in politics and governance while functioning in accordance to people’s mandate, democratic ethos, rule of law and constitutionalism, showering praises on Chief Achike Udenwa for his people-oriented policies and programs which they mentioned were instrumental to the success of Imo State.
