The Imo State House of Assembly has urged Governor Hope Uzodinma to direct the State Investment Promotion Agency to embark on identifying and having a database of mineral resources and raw materials available in the State.
The House also emphasized on the need for the agency to create awareness on the major raw materials and mineral resources to attract investors that will harness on their economic potentials for industrial purposes.
The resolution was made following the adoption of the motion moved by the member representing Ikeduru State Constituency,Hon.Johnleoba Iheoha who stressed on the economic potential behind promotion of mineral deposits in the State.
He maintained that the State is endowed with abundant mineral resources and raw materials which can stimulate industrial growth and create Job opportunities for the unemployed.
Iheoha pointed out that the promotion agency is saddled with the responsibility of promoting and making known to investors, available natural resources within the State in order to put them into industrial use.
He also noted that discovery and promotion of the available mineral deposits can attaract investors who can work on them to harness its economic potentials which would in turn increase revenue for the State.
“It is imperative to identify, document and promote these resources to attract investors and stimulate industrial growth of the State through conducting a comprehensive identification and articulation of all mineral resources and raw materials in the State ” he said.
The Ikeduru lawmaker further pointed out that the agency should gather reliable database and promotional materials highlighting the State’s investment potentials by publishing it in all print and electronic channels including social media in order to draw attention of investors to the State.
