Imo Assembly to summon IPMAN, DPRS, CPC over adulterated kerosene, fuel

The Imo State House of Assembly is set to summon Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Department of Petroleum Resources (DPRS), Consumers Protection Council (CPC) and other relevant stakeholders to appear before it to explain why adulterated kerosene and other petroleum products are dominating the oil market in the state.
The summon idea came through a motion moved by Hon. Arthur Egwim member representing Ideato North State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly.
While making the motion on the floor of the House, Hon Egwim listed the dangers associated with selling of adulterated petroleum products mostly, kerosene product that is commonly used by people living in the rural areas.
He maintained that the continued selling of the adulterated product have led many people to their untimely death.
“The accidental explosions as a result of the use of the unwholesome kerosene have sent many victims to their early graves, while the few lucky ones that survived the ordeal look ghostly and disfigured beyond recognition by those who used to know such people before the accident”, he stated.
The lawmaker, regretted that the relevant agencies that are saddled with the responsibility to checkmate the illegal flow and production of the adulterated petroleum products are not living up to the task.
He stressed the need for the house to summon the relevant agencies like, Nigeria Security Civil Defence, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Department of Petroleum Resources and Consumers Protection Council to explain why the state is supplied with adulterated kerosene leading to high frequency of explosions, killing and maiming of several innocent Imo citizens in the recent times.
Hon. Egwim, also prayed that the House should urge the governor of the state to direct the state taskforce on petroleum products to identify filling stations in the state and private individuals who take delivery and sell adulterated kerosene and other petroleum products for appropriate punishment to be meted on the offenders, to serve as deterrent to others.
