PolyNek Rector , Arimanwa lists achievements in office

Dr Michael Arimanwa, Rector Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri has made a positive progress in both academic and non academic activities, says eminent personalities that gathered in their numbers to honour the academia as he celebrated three years in office .
The anniversary party held at the school premises was graced by academics from various institutions within and outside the state, traditional rulers, political office holders, clergies and other professionals from other sectors.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Prof Godfrey Nwandikom noted that Dr Arimanwa has recorded tremendous achievements within his short stay in office .
He listed his feats to include office complexes , lecture halls , laboratory equipment and road infrastructure.
The chairman of the 14th Governing Council , Chief Charles Chukwudum Amilo , expressed satisfaction with the Rector’s achievements, urging him to continue his good works.
Delivering his speech, Dr Arimanwa emphasized that his mission is to promote excellence in research, teaching training, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship so that graduates of the institution will not only have capacity for independence but, also, be sought after in Nigeria and beyond.
He noted that he introduced electronic learning in the institution, so that students can learn from the comfort of their hostels within the school premises, adding that . 47 staff were given approval for TETFUND sponsorship training for Doctor of Philosophy Degree in various disciplines in Nigeria Universities, while 19 and 8 staff sponsored for TETFUND Masters Degree
in Nigeria Universities and abroad respectively.
He said under his leadership, the Department of Mass Communication was unbundled into several departments, like departments of Broadcasting , Advertising, Public Relations , Film and multi media , Print , and Mass Communication.
The institution he further noted also established Department of Animal Health and Production Technology as well as Department of Soil Science Technology.
Other achievements he highlighted are , repositioning the polytechnic micro finance bank , maintenance of excellent relationship with host community , improved relationship with the security agencies, repositioning of staff multi purpose cooperative society among others.
The highlights of the event was cutting of the anniversary cake. As well as long service award given to Mrs Adline Ashiegbu and Mrs Stella Anuruo who have worked for 43 and 39 years respectively . About 40 staff also received award of recommendations for excellent service rendered to the institution.
