Invasion of National Assembly: Osinbajo sacks DSS DG Daura, appoints Selyefa, Ag DG …As plot to impeach Saraki crashes

The drama that has characterised political intrigues which have continued to unfold since Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, reached its peak yesterday with the blockade of the National Assembly Complex by masked security operatives.
The operatives who were from the Department of State Security,DSS had laid siege on the complex as early as seven in the morning,preventing lawmakers, journalists, workers and visitors from gaining access to the complex.
But, shortly after the action which has been flayed by Nigerians as Democratic coup collapsed, Lawal Daura, Director General of DSS became the first victim of the macabre drama following his sack by the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.
The security takeover of the NASS complex sources revealed was done to facilitate the smooth impeachment of the senate president and deputy and their replacement by a Senator loyal to Mr President,Muhammadu Buhari adminstration.
The plot to sack Saraki leapfrogged to the front burner again recently in the aftermath of his dumping the ruling All Progressives Congress,APC, under whose platform he won re-election to the Senate and subsequently emerged senate president.
Since he left APC and joined PDP leaders of APC,including the National Chairman of the party Comrade Adams Oshiomhole have demanded that he resign his position as the Senate President because it is the right of the ruling party.
However, the same party leaders were also rumoured to have hatched a plot to impeach him, if he refused to step down as the President of the Senate, even as it was alleged that Comrade Oshiomhole was handed the task of coordinating the onslaught ,while the president was holidaying in London.
Tuesday invasion of NASS by security operatives Nigeria Newspoint gathered was to prevent lawmakers, loyal to Saraki from gaining access to the chambers while APC lawmakers who were allegedly to be ferried into the chambers through the back gate would sit and oust him.
Unfortunately, the plot could materialize as the plotters and their cohorts could muster the needed two third majority of Senators needed to sack the embattled Senate President.
Despite spirited efforts which included alleged,doling out one million dollars inducement to lawmakers those after Saraki could still not muster the number needed as forty eight senators reportedly lined behind the Senate President.
Senator Saraki who had Monday announced a meeting of principal officers of the NASS   later appeared at the complex,yesterday amid jubilation from workers and lawmakers to announce the postponement of the proposed meeting.
Meanwhile, Mr Matthew Selyefa has been appointed the acting Director General DG of DSS to replace sacked Daura who has become the first victim of the botched takeover of the NASS.
The Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who announced the removal of the ex-DG disclosed that he was sacked because he ordered the invasion of NASS without the knowledge of the presidency.
Similarly, Prof Osinbajo announced that the adminstration would launch investigation into the action which it described as unconstitutional and against the rule of law promising that those found culpable would be meted appropriate punishment
