Tension brews at Imo Airport as youths threaten action over rights

Youths of the host communities of Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Ngor Okpala, have threatened fire and brimstone over what they say is deliberate ploy by some agencies at the facility working in collaboration with some corrupt and discredited persons from their clan to deny them their due rights.

The youths who spoke under the banner of Onyeaghanwanneya Youth Movement OYM, in Owerri shortly after a meeting with Senator Samuel Anyanwu, added that the honeymoon between them and the agencies is over even as they vowed to legitimately fight to claim their rights.

President of the youths, Comrade Alvan Ahaotu Opara who spoke on behalf of the body said their findings revealed that some heads of agencies at the airport have continued to wickedly shortchange the host communities through their dealings with the former president of the body Mr Chukwuma Anuforo.

According to the president last year the executive led by Mr Anuforo was dissolved by the general Congress after staying in office for a whooping seven years against the provisions of the constitution of the body which stipulated two terms of four years pointing out that the said Mr Anuforo had since proceeded to court to challenge the outcome of the election which implied that he acknowledged that an election was held.

He regretted that the some enemies of the people heading some agencies at the airport have carried on their corrupt, wicked and inhuman denial of host communities rights especially in employment.

He stated that the concerned officials instead of embracing and working with the legitimately elected executive rather prefer to continue sharing job slots and other accruals meant for his people with the discredited president.

He alleged that the ousted President and his executive regularly brag that they are in charge of the airport and will continue to be in charge so long as the lawmaker representing Ngor Okpala State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon Obinna Egu is behind them.

The youth president made it clear that the youths of the area are fed up with the criminal collusion between Mr Anuforo and those agencies and would no longer sit by and watch them use their God given resource while denying  them benefits that should come from it.

Comrade Opara called on elected leaders especially Gov Rochas Okorocha, members of the National Assembly and security agencies to step in now and address the gross injustice and wickedness before it elicits serious negative reactions from the angry youths of the clan.
