Vincon hands over to new PG in Umunneato Ishi-Ogwa …Says: Election, peaceful …Ekemam emerges new PG

The present National Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Imo State town unions and defence officer of Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU), Prince Vincon Uwakwe-Uwandu has handed over the mantle of leadership to a newly elected executive council of Umunneato Ishi-Ogwa community, with a promise to continue living for the development and progress of the community. The hand-over ceremony which took over on April 3, 2021 during the annual delegates conference at Ogwa Central School, Idem Ogwa witnessed the election of a new exco for Umunneato Ishi-Ogwa headed by Prof. Hilary Ekemam as President-General, Hon. Josiah Nwosu Vice President-General, Mr. Chidi Ukomadu Secretary, Prince Eleanor Uwandu PRO, Rev. Godspower Osunwa Financial Secretary and Berthram Ihegworo Treasurer.

In his valedictory address, the immediate past President General of the community, Prince Uwakwe-Uwandu described the election that produced the new exco as “most peaceful.

He realed out some of his achievements while in office for 14 years to include, the prevention of the merger of Ogwa Comprehensive School with Umueze Girls Secondary when the received N10,000,000 world bank assisted fund.

Other achievements include the renovation of Umunneato Health Centre through the CSDP World Bank funds, securing of 300KVA transformer from Senator Chris Anyanwu, standing firm against the annexation of part of Ogwa Central School land by one Rufus Adakumonye, attracting a 300KVA transformer from illustrious sons-Arc. Chijioke Onumajuru and Prof. Steve Nwokeacho from Umuaro, attraction of a 300KVA transformer from Chidinma Osunwa from Okparanyanwu and many others.

Prince Uwakwe-Uwandu stated that the long stay of his administration was a result of former Governor Rochas Okorocha banning town unions and replacing them with CGG, of which Okorocha refused to obey court rulings on the matter after the town unions defeated him in court.

He also appealed to the people of the community to extend the support they gave to him and his administration to the new exco led by Prof. Hilary Ekemam.

Prince Uwakwe-Uwandu also appreciated the cordial relationship between his exco and the traditional ruler and thanked all who supported them in various ways to succeed in their service to their community.
