Exit of an Icon: Lawyers, Activists, Students Mourn As Durueke Is Buried, Today

Activists, students and the Civil Society Family in Imo State have expressed sadness and great sense of loss on the passing of renown human rights lawyer, Barr Wisdom Durueke.

In their condolence message a group of students activists who were formerly of the Federal University of Technology Owerri, FUTO expressed deep regrets on the sad event, while recalling the key role he played in the court case between them and the management of the institution in 2019.

According to them apart from his free legal services, the late activist also took it upon himself to negotiate with the management of the school with a view to finding an amicable solution to the disagreement between them and FUTO management.

The FUTO 9 Comrades Ogbonna Collins, Onuoha Elvis, Odunze Ebuka, Kenneth Megwa, Mmadu Nnamdi, Ihuka Victor, Chike Fred, Ekegbu Naomi, Obieze Fortune and Nzube Charles, stressed that it was his intervention that resulted in the resolution of the matter and their subsequent graduation in 2019.

They prayed God to give his wife Mrs,Durueke and the the family he left behind the strength to bear the loss.

On their part the board, staff, management and volunteers of Centre for Peace Across Boarders described Barr Durueke as foremost human rights and pro democracy activist whose legacies would live for a long time to come.

In the release signed by Ezeibe A.U the organisation prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
