Global Road Safety Week: FRSC commends Ugwuanyi for commitment on safety

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his effort and commitment towards ensuring safety on all roads in the state.
Mr Ogbonnanya Kalu, the Enugu State FRSC Sector Commander gave the commendation during the flag-off of the fifth United Nations (UN) Global Road Safety Week in Enugu on Monday.
He said that Enugu State had been rated among the best in traffic management, adding that the state traffic agency under the state ministry of transport was one of the best in the country.
He said that the FRSC, Enugu Sector Command had collaborated with state ministry of transport to mark the Global Road Safety Week activities on the bases of the ministry’s commitment and effort on the safety of roads in the state.
He stated that the Enugu State Sector Command through the corps 2019 Corporate Strategic Goals aimed at improving the Command’s visibility through enforcement and rescue services.
Others include public education, stakeholders’ collaboration and road safety observatory, recovery by reducing Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) and fatality by 20 and 25 per cents respectively.
According the Sector Commander, the theme of the fifth UN Global Road Safety Week is “Leadership for Road Safety”.
He explained that the theme was properly chosen as Leadership,mostly in Africa were not thinking about the importance of road safety.
“The Theme was chosen based on the fact that Leadership should be aware of road safety as most Leaders in Africa are expected to improving on roads’ safety standard,” he said.
In his keynote address, the Enugu State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Vitus Okechi said that Enugu government was committed to ensuring the safety of lives on all roads through its Traffic Management Agency.
Okechi added that the agency was set-up in line with the best standard to solve the problems of traffic on roads in Enugu.
He explained that the agency had embarked on traffic enlightenment so as to educate the public on road traffic rules.
Mr Ogbonnanya Idike, the Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Transport thanked Enugu FRSC for its good work, effort and commitment in making the roads safe for everyone in the state.
Idike urged FRSC to continue in their tireless effort to make all roads in Enugu State safer for all road users.
