ORAUSA: Imo Diaspora group holds convention in USA…To endorse chosen political candidates

The Orlu Regional Assembly USA Inc (ORAUSA Inc) comprising seventeen affiliate unions of indigenes of Orlu senatorial zone resident in the United States of America has concluded their 2018 annual national convention held at Atlanta, Georgia.

Over 800 people including members, their families and guests from within and outside USA attended the convention which began with a guided tour of points of attraction in the beautiful city of Atlanta including visit to Martin Luther King Centre, CNN center and a bus tour to Wild Adventures Valdosta.

In his presidential speech to declare the convention open, the new National President of ORAUSA, Chief Tony Okpara (Ebubedika) thanked God for his journey mercies granted to delegates from their affiliate unions in USA including guests from Nigeria, reaffirming the preparedness of members of his new executive committee to pilot the affairs of the group to the best of their abilities.

Chief Okpara noted that their assembly is on strong footing and pledged to continue and improve upon their programs centered towards humanitarian service to the needy in orlu senatorial zone and projects to promote healthcare, education, technology and youth development. He also pledged to encourage programs that will bring Diaspora youth into the main stream of the organization as future leaders.

The convention which lasted for five days took far reaching decisions including the reaffirmation of support by the ORAUSA House of Delegates for all programs and projects undertaken by their new administration to advance the core value of their assembly.

The convention also unanimously passed a resolution to continue to vigorously pursue the major programs of the group which includes their medical missions, youth programs, micro finance loans, Orlu Annual Home Land Summit and such other ventures to facilitate the human and infrastructural development of Orlu senatorial zone even as their political action committee (ORA-PAC) was mandated to continue to pursue programs that seek to educate the populace back home on their rights to participate in choosing the better candidates to provide good governance in a democratic setting.

The highlight of the Atlanta Convention was the election of new Advisory Board of Directors and Special Awards to deserving individuals and groups including the announcement of their annual convention Hosts for 2019 and 2020 won by Washington DC and Houston TX respectively.

Some notable dignitaries and Imo governorship aspirants who included ORAUSA Patron Chief Green Iheka, Chief Ifeanyi Ararume represented by Engr. Ronnis Eronini, Chief Frank Nneji and Chief lyke Ibe attended the convention from Nigeria.

Nigeria Newspoint gathered that the present ORAUSA executive committee of ten principal officers were elected in 2017 with Chief Tony Okpara as president. Dr. Uzo Unegbu and Deacon Charles Anumudu are vice president and National Secretary respectively while Chief Chidi Nwameme serves as their advisory board of director’s chairman and Chief Sir. Basil Ibenyenwa who won the position of National Public Relations Officer (PRO).

It was also gathered that the convention disclosed that it will in due courseannounce their position on candidates running for various political offices in Imo State.
