Imo Assembly: I’ll deliver democratic dividends to Nkwerre -Osummanu

An Imo State House of Assembly aspirant for Nkwerre State constituency in 2019 general elections, Obinna Chukwuka Onyeama (Osummanu) has said that a lot of reasons propelled him to decide to represent the people of Nkwerre in the state House of Assembly.
This is just as Onyeama has declared total support for the aspiration of his kinsman and member representing Nkwerre/Isu/Nwangele/Njaba Federal Constituency, Sir JOnes Onyereri to go higher to represent Orlu senatorial district in 2019.
Speaking with journalists in his country home, Owerre Nkworji after meeting with some members of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area, Onyeama he was propelled to run for the House of assembly seat because Nkwerre people had never effective representation in recent time from the people that had represented been elected to represent them.
“Anytime we the youths work for the PDP, the people our leaders give us to represent us don’t seem to give us any returns in terms of democratic dividends.
“We thank God for the likes of Hon. Jones Onyereri who has been shouldering the burden alone despite the fact that most of the beneficiaries don’t show appreciation. That is why I decided that since he’s going for the highest legislative seat in the land which is senate, I will be at the state level to ensure what is due for our people get to them”, he said.
He said as a party in opposition in the state, the PDP needs a well-known and articulated person to be given the PDP ticket “to ensure this mandate is retrieved from our opponents who have held the power in the state here as if it’s their personal property forgetting that power belongs to the people.
“I’m happy that the leadership of the PDP in Imo State has made it clear that it will ensure a level playing ground for everybody by giving power to the people to select whoever they want. That is why I’m out. Again, our people have tested our opponents and found out they are bunch of disappointments. So, there’s nothing to expect from them anymore other than hand over power to PDP who is ready to return Imo State back to glory days.
“I’m out because I want to represent the youths, the women and the less privileged in Nkwerre. I want to bridge the gap and give back to the people what they deserve. Nkwerre people needs somebody like me who will explore every governmental and non-governmental agencies to represent them and bring democratic dividends”.
On the speculations that his aspiration does not go down well with Hon. Onyereri’s senatorial ambition, Osummanu said “when people talk about Jones Onyereri running for senate while I come from the same place with him to run for house of assembly, my only answer is that there is nothing to compare the two positions. First Jones is going to represent 12 LGAs of Orlu Zone while I’m going to represent only Nkwerre LGA.
“As a matter of fact, Hon. Jones needs somebody very close to him that will protect his votes in Nkwerre LGA while he goes out there in the other 11 LGAs of Orlu zone to slug it out.
“Again, we have a way of sharing positions in Nkwerre between Nkwerre and Owerre Nkworji and others. Nkwerre has gone eight years with Obinna Okwara and Chika Madumere and it’s the turn of the others to go. Now that no other person is coming out from our bloc and I represent a very capable person, I think the party ticket should be reserved for me.
“But, what I’m saying is that apart from zoning, the party delegates should choose somebody with the capacity to win the general election and that person is me”.
He restated his resolve to continue to mobilise and support Hon. Onyereri’s ambition, saying ‘all I’m asking Nkwerre people is to support our own Jones to make it to the Senate because he has shown capacity to deliver and when it comes to the grassroots level, they should look inwards to select the person with the capacity, integrity and the reach to represent them and I think I fit into this description”.
